In Monday’s post about the InStyle Wardrobe Basics checklist, I referenced a great article on the InStyle magazine website that gave readers a checklist on how to compile a basic wardrobe. In the previous article, all the basics were listed with some additional advice on color choices.
In this installment, we’ll look at their recommendations for Fall and Winter wardrobe acquisitions so that you can round out your current wardrobe and finish Winter with style. Depending on where you live, your climate might be warmer or colder and you may have to adjust these recommendations to fit your climate.
Don’t be afraid to flip the recommendations if that’s what will suit your climate or working conditions – flexibility is what makes your wardrobe uniquely YOU.
Cotton waffle robe. Perfect over pajamas or after a shower, this robe is far less bulky than its terry cloth cousin.
The tuxedo shirt. The ultimate day-to-night top, it has a crisp quality that makes it a great multitasker.
LYR Note: If you are full-busted, take care with the fit and sizing of your tuxedo shirt – with all the ruffles up front, it may put more emphasis on your bustline than you might like. If that’s true for you, pick a different kind of dressy shirt – embroidery, a rich fabric or vibrant color can make a big difference in how it works in your wardrobe.
Fleece vest. Terrific over a turtleneck or peeking out from under a coat, a vest offers versatility in unpredictable autumn weather.
Athletic sweatshirt. As comfortable as a flannel pajama top
